The Bridges at Martis Camp

Martis Camp is a 2,177 acre private luxury community located between Truckee, California and North Lake Tahoe. The community offers a wide variety of both indoor and outdoor seasonal activities to family members of all ages. An 18 hole championship golf course designed by Tom Fazio is available to members. The 50,000 s/f Camp Lodge rises above the 18th green and offers a day spa, dining facilities, lockers, and workout facilities. The Family Barn offers pool tables, an indoor basketball court, a two-lane bowling alley, a game room, a movie theater, and an outdoor amphitheater. There are hiking trails, a catch and release fish pond, and an outdoor Sports Pavilion that accommodates soccer, bocce ball, croquet, and softball. Books can be checked out at the Lost Library. There is a tennis facility with four courts, an 18 hole putting course, access to skiing at Northstar, beach access to Lake Tahoe, and an Aerial Adventure Park. Residents of Martis Camp could never run out of ways to spend their recreational hours.

Access for vehicles to a large section of the development is available thanks to a Timber Truss bridge engineered and installed by Western Wood Structures. Four 16’ tall Parallel Chord Glulam trusses that span 148’ support the weight of the super structure. The bridge is 32’ wide and includes 4’ wide pedestrian walkways on either side. In addition to the vehicular loads, the bridge was also designed to carry water mains.

In addition to this featured bridge, WWS designed and supplied 7 other vehicular bridges on the property with spans ranging from 30’ to 73’. These bridges, some of which are sloped and skewed, are all side girder style bridges.

Completing the collection of WWS designed timber bridges on the Martis Camp property are two pedestrian bridges measuring 30’ and 40’. These bridges feature log type post and rail systems and were assembled in our shop prior to shipment.

The bridges blend into the environment and are consistent in staying with the heavy timber theme at Martis Camp.
