1969-Today

  • The Beginning

    Western Wood Structures opens, selling a variety of heavy timber and glulam beams. First project sold is in Myrtle Point, OR.

  • Expansion

    Western Wood Structures expands to sell timber bridge packages, selling to parks, counties, municipalities and golf courses.

  • Tacoma Dome

    The Tacoma Dome opens. Designed and built by WWS, this 530’ diameter dome is the largest in the world. Over 100 miles of decking is used for the roof.

  • Superior Dome

    It’s a new record. The Superior Dome at Northern Michigan University is 532’ in diameter, besting the Tacoma Dome by 2’.

  • Anaheim Ice Arena

    Anaheim Ice Arena was built as the practice facility for the newly born Mighty Ducks of Anaheim NHL Franchise. Although the Ducks practice elsewhere these days, the facility is still open to the public for skating and hosts many other youth events.

  • Potash Storage Building

    Potash Storage Building – The original Potash building at Terminal 5 in Portland, OR. This building was 1475’ long, 150’ wide, and over 7 stories high. WWS later added another 700’ onto this building in 2007.

  • Christ the Light Cathedral

    Christ the Light Cathedral opened in Oakland, CA. This structure won numerous timber design awards for its ingenuity and design. The church is built within a couple miles of the ever-active San Andreas Fault.

  • Whistlestop Bridge Project

    Whistlestop Bridge project, a 280’ clear span Camelback Truss Bridge design. This bridge located in Portage, AK is the longest timber clear span bridge in North America.

  • LeMay America’s Car Museum

    The LeMay America’s Car Museum opened in Tacoma, WA, which is home to a rotation of cars and collectibles from Harold & Nancy LeMay’s collection.

  • Vancouver Public Schools Project

    Vancouver Public Schools Project – Marshall Elementary and McLoughlin Middle School were completely redesigned and rebuilt. These Mass Timber school buildings used both CLT and Glulams, and at the time, were the largest Mass Timber project in the Northwest, amassing over 204,000sf.

  • San Mateo County Office Building #3

    San Mateo County Office Building #3 is a Mass Timber project located in Redwood City, CA. This 6-story building is shaped like an “H”, uses sustainably sourced timber, and will be home to county employees for decades to come.
